THEY were singing 'Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree' in Charlton Kings yesterday when they had their first ever festive lights switch-on event.
Hundreds of people turned out to bask in the illuminating glow of the Christmas tree lights, and there were lots of other bright ideas for fun at the festive extravaganza.
Youngsters from Charlton Kings Junior School sung carols, there were fairground rides, tasty treats and a raffle, and Santa took a break from the North Pole to join in the festivities.
Jolly St Nick may have picked up some ideas for presents too when he looked around the Christmas market, which was selling vintage toys, beauty products, jewellery, candles and cakes.
Money raised on the day went to Bettridge School in Cheltenham, which is for children with special needs.
The event in Church Piece was organised by the parish council and Charlton Kings' Christmas Event, a group made up of local people with festive spirit.
Claire Harrison, who helped organise, said: "We wanted to create a real feeling of community and nearly all the local businesses came together to help."
