Little Brownie breaks royal protocol to pose up with queen

A BOLD little Brownie broke all royal protocol when she daringly strode up to the Queen – and cheekily asked for a picture with her battered old teddy bear.

Fearless Jessica Fitch tracked down the monarch at the Coronation Festival at Buckingham Palace and made her photo bid with 'Bertie' the Brownie bear tucked under her arm.

In a rare departure from protocol, the Queen happily obliged and granted a snap, beaming at the camera as seven-year-old Jessica's father Michael took a prized picture.

If that wasn't enough, the daring Benhall Infants' School pupil tried asking the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince of Wales – adding two more amazing photographs to the family album.

Jessica, of St Mark's, said: "Well, you see, I was very excited but a little bit nervous when I saw the queen.

"I went up to her and then I stood in front of her and my dad said 'Maam, please may we have a photo with Bertie?'.

"She said she was very happy with that.

"She looked at my bear and said to me 'Are you a Brownie?' and I said 'Yes I am' but I said it in a very posh voice.

"She was very lovely and she looked very pretty and she was wearing a dress with blue flowers like my mummy.

"When she left I was really excited and I was singing, 'I'm going to be in the newspaper, I'm going to be in the newspaper'."

Bertie is the mascot for Jessica's Brownie group at Bethesda Methodist Church, where she has been a member for a year.

Deciding their luck was in, Jessica, mum Heather, 39, and dad Michael, 35, took him off towards the food hall where they found Camilla – and then Prince Charles – completing her royal hat-trick.

Little Jessica added: "The Duchess of Cornwall asked me about my bear so I just asked her if I could have a picture. She was really quite lovely.

"She was wearing a grey dress and she looked lovely and she held my shoulder when we were having a photograph.

"Then I met Prince Charles and oh my goodness he was so funny.

"He was telling me things like 'make sure you don't pull the bear's legs off', and then he said 'I don't think your dad knows how to work that thing' about the camera. He was making me laugh so much."

The Fitchs were at the Coronation Festival on Thursday, which showcased the work of 200 royal warrant holders who supply goods and services "By Appointment" to members of the Royal family.
