VISITORS across the city should expect to find drunken navvies, gossiping waterways women, lazy lock keepers and officious dock managers brought to life this weekend.

Gloucester Waterways Museum is taking part in national annual event, the Museums at Night initiative.

The first one took place last night.

Doreen Davis, manager, said: "There will be costumed characters dressed as typical waterways folk.

"They will lead torchlight tours around the museum."

Volunteer actors will bring the exhibits to life, replacing static mannequins as they act out scenes relating to life on the waterways.

Doreen added: "We have had around 50 people attend already, which is fantastic, including a group of Scouts."

The annual after-hours celebration of arts, culture and heritage events will run until Sunday.
