ART met protest for a procession to mark the start of the Site arts festival.
"The placard procession was a chance to have a say about things people care about," said Sally Holditch of youth art group Mould, which organised the event.
Placards were painted at Mould HQ – the empty former Curry's store in High Street.
More than 200 placards, bearing slogans ranging from I Hate Peas to Time for Justice, were paraded to the Goods Shed for a village fete with a twist – The Fate of Art.
Attractions included a mystery nailbar and Cereal Killer skittles with cereal boxes. Bands played in the evening.
"It was fantastic," said Sally, 19. "Mould organised the whole event and it was satisfying that people were interested."
Site features exhibitions, events, talks and open studios throughout May. Mould TV, with film coverage of Site, will be created from their HQ.
