TREASURE hunters will be in paradise when a two day antiques fair launches in Gloucester.

The Gloucester Quays Antiques Fair will see a trove of beautiful items fill the Upper Deck at the Quays.

And the biannual events are expected to attract thousands of people into the city.

The first will be held on April 27 and 28.

More than 80 dealers from across the South and Midlands will be there selling antiques and collectables including stamps, coins, jewellery, silver, ceramics, glass and small furniture.

The fair has been launched by the Gloucester Antiques Centre in conjunction with Brian Ashbee Antiques.

The centre was bought by Evan Maindonald in 2007 and used to host occasional fairs on North Quay.

The concept is now being revived.

Centre general manager Stephen Zacaroli said: "I think Gloucester has turned a corner and there is a renaissance going on started with the investment at the Quays and built on with the support of the attractions such as the cathedral and museums.

"I'm a fervent believer that if we all work together we can encourage more people to come to Gloucester.

"The Quays is becoming a national destination for a day out and the Upper Deck is the perfect location as people can park and walk right in so we don't have to be at the mercy of the weather.

"I'm looking forward to the first one with great eagerness and hopes to see thousands of people there.

"We are going through a tough time but antiques are still popular as they are quality items and hold their value well."

The fair will be open 10 am to 5pm each day and admission will be £2.50.

The second fair will be held on  October 19 and 20.
