A 59-year-old man caught with extreme pornography showing 'sexual activity with a human corpse' has walked free from court. Judge William Hart told Kevin Gavin he had 'cast aside the costume of good character and adopted the cloak of shame." Gavin , of Belgrave Road, Gloucester, pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing 'extreme pornography, 11 charges of making indecent images of children and one of possessing just over 2,000 child pornography pictures. He was sentenced to 6 months jail suspended for two years, placed under supervision for the same period and ordered to attend a 35 day sex offender programme. The judge also imposed a sexual offences prevention order, banned Gavin from working with children for life, and ordered him to sign the sex offender register for ten years, "These extreme images imvolving sexual activity with a human corpse were quite despicable," said the judge. "I cannot imagine anyone finding such images pleasurable or arousing. But perhaps I am being naive." Julian Kesner, prosecuting, said police investigations revealed Gavin had been accessing child pornography from April 2009. He was tracked down through his internet provider, Orange, and police raided his home on June 15, 2012. His computer, camera and an external drive were all checked and the indecent images were found - even though he had deleted many. They were recovered with special equipment used by the police,. Mr Kesner said the extreme pictures were 'quite revolting.' There were 2,413 child pornography images at the least serious level one, 54 at level 2, 21 at level 3, 41 at level 4 and 35 at the worst level, 5. Michael Fernando, defending, said Gavin was a 'completely isolated' loner who had always worked industriously and had never been in trouble before. He had been a buyer for a local firm for ten years but had quit in January because of the prosecution. Although for most people the internet was a good thing for some like Gavin it was a destructive force, he said. Gavin's greatest concern if he were sent to jail was that he has elderly parents in Yeovil who need him, said Mr Fernando. His father has dementia. Passing sentence Judge Hart said the short jail term Gavin deserved would mean he woould not get any sex offender treatment in prison. It was more constructive to suspend sentence and ensure Gavin receives some rehabilitative treatment, he said.
