A FATHER has been jailed after bursting into the home of a tenant of his father and threatening him with a gun.
Andrew Barton, 44, told Adewunmi Ajibola "I'm going to blast you" as he pointed a gun at him at the student's house in Waterloo Street, Cheltenham, on February 22.
This followed an argument between Mr Ajibola and Barton's mum the previous day, after she and her husband Cliff had given the student notice to move out of his rented room because they planned to sell the property.
Dad-of-one Barton, of St Aubin's in Woodmancote, was jailed for 18 months at Gloucester Crown Court on Thursday after admitting having a ballbearing gun with intent to cause fear of violence.
Lisa Hennessy, prosecuting, told the court Barton's father had asked University of Gloucestershire students Mr Ajibola and Daniel Kehinde to move out by the end of this month after being diagnosed as terminally ill with cancer.
On February 21 there was a 10 to 15-minute argument between Mrs Barton and Mr Ajibola, she said.
Andrew Barton was present and accused Mr Ajibola of being rude to his mum and said he would "get some guys to come round and sort this out."
The next day Barton let himself into the building and went to the top of the stairs, where he met Mr Ajibola.
"Barton was holding what appeared to be a handgun in his right hand and he pointed it at Mr Ajibola, who walked backwards into Mr Kehinde's room," said Mrs Hennessy.
"He said 'What are you saying now? You've messed with the wrong family. I'm going to blast you.' He grabbed at Mr Ajibola's shirt as he walked backwards. Mr Ajibola fell onto the bed, with Barton clutching his shirt with one hand and holding the gun in the other. It was right in Mr Ajibola's face.
"He threatened to blast him, saying that he had been rude to his mother."
The court heard that Barton then put the gun back into his trousers and warned Mr Ajibola not to tell the police before leaving.
Mr Ajibola and Mr Kehinde, who had recorded the incident on his mobile phone, dialled 999 and Barton was arrested at his home later that night. Barton told officers he had pointed the gun at Mr Ajibola because he had been helping him make a viral video, the court heard.
