DAVE Mehew and his squad have decided to block any off-field problems out of their minds as they seek a Blue Square Bet North best on the field.

While off the field problems have hogged the recent headlines, Mehew's men are quietly going about creating some on the field.

Victory at Bishop's Stortford tomorrow would lift the Tigers to within four points of their best ever Blue Square Bet North return and solidify their place in the top ten too.

And while Mehew admits that there has been brief talk of the off-field problems, he is set on creating history on the field.

"We may have a chat about what's going on but there are five weeks of the season to go we have our own targets to worry about," he said.

"We want to be the best Gloucester City team in terms of Blue Square Bet North finish and that's well within our grasp.

"What will be, will be. All we can worry about as a team is getting our best possible finish, and beating our own records and that's something we're confident of achieving.

"In any business you want to see growth and improvement and if we get to 53 points that will be our job done and it should net us that top ten finish too."

First in their targets is a second trip to Woodside Park, a venue that proved to be far from a happy hunting ground last term.

City were on the wrong end of a 2-0 thumping in Essex last term and Mehew is hoping that they will fare much better on their trip around the M25 this year.

"We didn't play well there last season. There were a couple of people who were sulking because they had to play in a position they didn't want to.

"There were a couple of others who were given an opportunity to show what they can do and didn't perform so we'll look to certainly do better than that.

"But on the flip side, I am sure their manager will be looking to avenge the defeat that they had earlier in the season when they were three down in no time and we won comfortably."

Striker Will Morford is set to play as he battles a long-term hamstring / back problem that will require surgery in the summer, but defender Chris Holland is unlikely to be risked.

Midfielder Darren Mullings made a surprise return from shoulder surgery at Chester last weekend, but is set to join Chippenham in a bid to find full fitness.

"Darren did well after coming on at Chester last week and it's a bonus to have him around again," Mehew said.

"But he needs the confidence and the fitness from playing every week so will link up with Chippenham to get some games under his belt."
