BARRELS have rolled in, the pumps are primed and the punters are thirsty.

The first CAMRA Gloucester Beer and Cider Festival is taking place at the Blackfriars Priory over the weekend.

Earlier this week, casks containing around 35 local and national ales, as well as 12 ciders, arrived and the organising team have been busy setting them up ready for opening time.

There will also be a foreign bottled beer bar with 50 beers from Belgium, Germany and USA among others offered by Favourite Beers of Cheltenham.

The weekend entertainment will be provided by Birmingham ukelele covers band The Strumtroopers, local Jazz duo Bex and Franks, while Lyn Cinderey, the Gloucester Ghost lady, will be involved and sharing her ghostly knowledge of the Priory.

It is expected 1,500 pints will be poured over the course of the two days of various tipples including some new brews such as the Corinium Brewery's 'Ale Caesar' from Cirencester, which only started brewing in November.
