Cheltenham Town video: Everton stars set benchmark - Pack

Marlon Pack believes that Everton's international talent will set a benchmark for Cheltenham Town's ambitious young players.

Pack appeared briefly in the Championship for Portsmouth before joining the Robins and he is one of several members of Mark Yates' squad who harbour ambitions of climbing back up the divisions.

The 21-year-old knows the standards set by the likes of fellow midfielders Leon Osman, Phil Neville and Thomas Hizlsperger are what he must aim to emulate if he is to attract the attention of leading clubs.

"I really rate Osman, who has recently been given an England call-up and he's been so consistent for years, but doesn't get as much recognition as other players," Pack said.

"Playing against someone like him is a showcase for all of us, live on television and against some Premier League opposition.

"It's what everyone wants when they are younger and I still want to play as high as possible.

"It will be good to rub shoulders with that quality of opposition again and I am sure they'll play a strong side."

Pack was in the Cheltenham team that went down 3-0 to Tottenham at White Hart Lane exactly a year ago, but he has not been an automatic choice in recent weeks.

He was taken off at half-time in the 4-1 defeat at Rochdale after taking a knock and left out for the home match against Wycombe on Boxing Day.

He went on in the second half at Oxford on New Year's Day and made a positive impression, but he was unable to help Cheltenham conjure an equaliser as they went down to Peter Leven's first-half penalty.

"It's all about me getting my head down, as I do anyway, but even more so now, working even harder to get back in the team and stay there for the rest of the season," Pack said.

"Of course I am desperate to play against Everton, but it would be the same if it was another League game and the occasion doesn't change how much I want to start.

"We gave a good account of ourselves at Tottenham and at home, hopefully, the result will be different, who knows what could happen."
