Mark Yates has identified his two leading transfer targets and the Cheltenham Town boss is ready to swoop after tonight's FA Cup third round glamour tie against Everton.
It is understood a loan deal has been secured for one player, with another temporary move on the verge of being completed.
Both players could be signed in time for the Robins' next League Two match at home to York on Saturday and Yates is believed to be keen to retain them for the remainder of the campaign.
He met with chairman Paul Baker and his board before Christmas, presenting his plans for the transfer window and he was given an increased budget with which to work.
Baker said: "Mark has had a very busy time with going to Newcastle to watch Everton play, preparing for tonight's match and also thinking about the transfer window.
"But targets have been identified, discussions have taken place and we hope to announce signings this week."
Baker described the players in question as "exciting for the fans" and he is confident they will provide a timely lift for Cheltenham's promotion hopes.
"We need to push on and make sure we finish in the play-offs at least and hopefully the top three and these will be good additions," he said.
"It's never easy signing players who are in demand and being chased by other clubs in the top ten of League Two, but I am hopeful Mark will get the business done and they will have lots to offer."
Baker is confident midfielder Darren Carter remains on course to agree a deal until the end of the season, with his current deal due to expire at the end of this month.
"I am of the understanding Darren is keen to stay so it's a case of sitting down and securing him until the end of the season at least," Baker said.
The loan of Reading youngster Jake Taylor has already been extended.
