IT has been an incredible year. The Olympic Torch journey through Gloucestershire brought thousands of people together in anticipation of the London 2012 games - and what a success they were. Many people also gathered to toast the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee celebrations as the nation enjoyed an extra bank holiday. And who could miss the rain? It has been the wettest year since records began and the year ended with widespread flood warnings in place across the county. It has been another mammoth year for Thisisgloucestershire with thousands of people logging onto the site every day to keep up with the news, sport and entertainment news. TiG has delved through the archives to pick out some of the most visited articles of 2012 for our review of the year which can be viewed below - and please feel free to leave your own personal memories of 2012 in the comments section below. JANUARY: News that Tie Rack and Mark Elliot Furniture stores were to close down in Cheltenham received more than 5,000 visitors. The sudden death of 11-year-old All Saints' Academy student Megan White brought messages of support flooding in. Discovery of a devoured deer carcass at Cooper's Edge once again fuelled debate over whether a big cat really is stalking Gloucestershire. The former girlfriend of convicted killer Adrian Prout - Debbie Garlick - told how he had confessed to murdering his wife in a chilling prison cell confession. Ye Olde Restaurant and Fish Shoppe owner Kambiz Roohi found himself in hot water when he replaced a sign for the shop which had been in place for 20 years. FEBRUARY: Video footage of what is believed to have been a big cat was released by cat tracker Frank Tunbridge. The jury is definitely still out! A big chill hit Gloucestershire with snow falling across the county. Fire destroyed the former Norville factory site in Tredworth. The rising bollards in Cheltenham High Street sent a local man flying when they shot up. A good old fashioned political row made the top articles in February when the Lib Dems accused the Conservatives of trying to take credit for a £122m boost to the Gloucestershire economy. MARCH: Longlevens mum Samantha Bethell was left shocked after someone said her son "should have been strangled at birth" while she was out shopping. The then Spurs boss Harry Redknapp made the news for non-footballing reasons when he blasted 'Cheltenham Festival nutters'. Crypt School waged war on Twitter after offensive remarks about the school were placed on the social networking site. The looming threat of a national tanker drivers' strike sparked a bout of panic buying at petrol forecourts in Gloucestershire. Olympic fever started in the county as the torch route was revealed. APRIL: A teenager who posted an explicit video of himself on Facebook was caught apparently boasting about his new found notoriety holding a copy of The Citizen. Historic Gloucestershire Newland House was gutted by fire in the Forest of Dean. A gallery of aerial pictures of flooding in Tewkesbury made it into the top ten most viewed pieces of content in April. A stretch of the A417 between Staunton and Maisemore was branded as one of the most dangerous in Gloucestershire. Dancing Ken Hanks was upset when he was apparently refused entry to a pub in Cheltenham. MAY: Cheltenham was rocked when a house on Rosehill Street exploded damaging property throughout the street. Who could forget the amazing scenes in Gloucestershire as the Olympic Torch travelled through the county. Tributes flooded in for young rugby player Dominic Cullen who died suddenly after playing in the Senior Cup Final at Kingsholm. American diner Ruby Tuesday announced plans to open a branch in The Brewery, Cheltenham. Three young burglars who ruined a couple's wedding were named and shamed. JUNE: June began with a royal knees up for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The one and only Sir Tom Jones rocked Gloucester with a sell-out gig at Kingsholm. A picture of a 'baby ghost' which caused a lot of interest online turned out to be an iPhone prank. A stag party prank went awry when police swooped on a 'kidnap' victim in a car. Women walking on May Hill were being warned to watch out for a man in a smurf or morph suit who was flashing in the area. Speculation was rife that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were house hunting in Gloucestershire. JULY: Gloucestershire mourned after Forest of Dean father Ceri Fuller was found dead with his three children in woodland in Shropshire. Puddle wars erupted in Up Hatherley after motorists were accused of deliberately splashing pedestrians by driving through puddles. Nathan Sykes from band The Wanted caused a stir when he popped into the Ribston Hall school prom. The mystery of the A40 wallaby was solved when it emerged the creature had been released by students as a prank. Hundreds of people gathered to pay tribute to 'Superman' Cain Westcarr who died aged 12. AUGUST: Forget the Essex Lion - a 'big cat' was pictured in Gloucestershire. Political think tank Policy Exchange caused a stink when it suggested social housing tenants from the Cotswolds should be moved to Gloucester. Gloucestershire joined the world in enjoying areguably the best Olympic Games in history at London 2012. Cheltenham rower Alex Gregory was among those honoured with a gold postbox. Taxi driver Jeff Payne was given a parking ticket after pulling up for just 15 seconds. Tributes were paid to Gloucestershire wakeboarder Max Hartshorne who died in an accident involving a car. SEPTEMBER District judge Bopa-Rai slammed Facebook saying it was causing increasing amounts of hassle. People in Brockworth were shocked when car clampers swept through the area. Cheltenham angler Brian Humphries landed the legendary carp The Parrot Daleks appeared on Cleeve Hill. Cheltenham woman Rebecca Nangle was jailed for six years for stabbing another woman in a row over New Year's parties. OCTOBER: Leeds United football hooligan Aaron Cawley was convicted of slapping goalkeeper Chris Kirkland. A mother was left embarrassed after allegedly being told to face the wall while breastfeeding in The Mayflower restaurant in Cheltenham. Gloucester dad Paul James said he had a lucky escape after his iPhone glowed red and almost exploded. Stock at the former Jason Jones Autocentre was sold off to pay back creditors. Esther Rantzen told Cheltenham Literature Festival that she was sure Jimmy Savile had abused children. NOVEMBER: In what is now becoming an all too familiar scene, Gloucestershire experienced flooding once again. British Transport Police issued an appeal to help find an extreme trainspotter who apparently went onto a level crossing to take a picture of a steam train. Independent candidate Martin Surl won the race to become Gloucestershire's first Police and Crime Commissioner. Foodies celebrated when Whole Foods Market opened a branch in Cheltenham. Bargain hunters queued to get a good deal at Comet after it emerged the chain was closing down. DECEMBER: Christmas excitement went up a notch when the Coca Cola truck visited the county. Plans to demolish the Peel Centre shops in Gloucester were unveiled. Memebers of the Connors traveller family were jailed for making vulnerable people undertake forced labour. The wettest year on record ended with yet more flooding in Gloucestershire. Thousands of people logged on to read about two dogs which had been abandoned by the roadside in freezing conditions.
