The Olympic Torch journey through Gloucestershire brought thousands of people together in anticipation of the London 2012 games - and what a success they were.
Many people also gathered to toast the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee celebrations as the nation enjoyed an extra bank holiday.
And who could miss the rain? It has been the wettest year since records began and the year ended with widespread flood warnings in place across the county.
