Christmas presents and a television were taken in a house burglary in Abbeydale earlier this week.
The thieves struck in The Richmonds some time between 12.30pm on Monday December 17 and 5.30pm yesterday.
Wrapped presents for children including a Leapfrog computer were taken, as well as boxes of ladies' cosmetics.
A men's white gold wedding ring and silver cufflinks were also stolen.
PC Andy Plant said: "We have been at the family's house and spoken to the victims, who are naturally distraught.
"There was nothing they could do because the offenders forced their way in but it is such a sad time for it to happen.
"Forensics officers and we in the local policing team are now doing everything possible to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
"There has been an increase in burglaries in Gloucester in the last couple of months and Christmas has the habit of drawing out offenders so I would urge homeowners to be vigilant.
