The trial of Ewen Reynolds, who is accused of killing teenager Zac Evans in a machete attack in Gloucester last month, is set to take place at Gloucester Crown Court in June.

Court officials have set aside two weeks for the trial, which will start on June 1.

Last month Gloucester MP Richard Graham led calls for the trial to be held in the city rather than Bristol Crown Court because of the level of public interest in the case.

Ewen Anthony Reynolds, aged 44, of Foley close, Tuffley, is accused of murdering Zac and attempting to murder his friend Keaton Jones, 22, in an alleged machete attack outside the Pike and Musket pub in Tuffley in the early hours of Saturday, January 24.

He is next due in court for a plea and case management hearing on May 5.

Meanwhile, arrangements have also been made for Zac's funeral, which will take place at Gloucester Cathedral next Friday, February 20, at 11am.

The Cathedral was chosen because of the sheer number of people expected to want to attend to pay their last respects to painter and decorator Zac.

His mum, Sylvia, has thanked the many people from across the city for their support and sympathy since his death - and donations towards his funeral costs which have now reached £8,000.

She is is encouraging people to wear blue for the cathedral service, which is expected to be attended by up to 1,000 people.

Since the crown court system began in 1972 all murder cases from Gloucestershire have been dealt with in Bristol because the city does not have a resident High Court judge. Gloucester's lower-ranked circuit judges are not entitled to conduct murder trials - although they can deal with cases of attempted murder.

It is expected that the Recorder of Bristol, Neil Ford, will conduct Mr Reynolds' trial.
