Elderly residents were celebrating their new social group's six month birthday.

Saint James church holds' Chit Chat every week on Thursday mornings. It is a drop in where people can come and socialise over a cuppa and a bite to eat.

There is a range of newspapers to read, music, board and crossword puzzles available. There is also a book bucket where people can choose a book and take it home with them.

The drop in has been open for nearly six months so to celebrate the occasion Chit Chat held a party in the church this morning. Everyone was invited and there was no charge.

Margaret Ramsey from Quedgeley said: "I found out about Chit Chat from going to Chatterbox playgroup with my great grandchildren. Father John always pops in and makes us laugh. He's very friendly and approachable."

June Robertson from Farriers End in Quedgeley added: "It's always friendly, we can meet up with old friends and there is lots of companionship. It's great to be able to read the newspapers over a cup of coffee."

Gordon Price also from Quedgeley said: "I found out from Chit Chat from the Quedgeley News. Very few facilities in Quedgeley like this, it's enjoyable."

Father John Ward, Rector and Parish Priest said: "It was a fabulous morning, well attended. Over the last few months we have seen numbers increase. Obviously we would like more people to attend and aware that for some the obstacle is transport.

"If you would like to attend but the journey too much of an ordeal please give Chit Chat a ring on 01452 721062 and we shall try and help out."

County councillor Mark Hawthorne (C,Quedgeley) also attended Chit Chat today. He said: "It is great to see Chit Chat go from strength to strength. It is a really important resource for the local community and I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved. Thank you to all the volunteers who work week in and week out to make it a success."
