ALL roads lead to the Forest of Dean this Saturday for the 40th Wyedean Rally.

The quickest crews from across the country including British champions and previous winners are heading to Wyedean to challenge the very best county stars and champions.

The entry list is quite simply the best ever seen on the event and in total there will be 175 cars taking to the start line at Chepstow Racecourse.

Organised by the Forest of Dean Motor Club (FODMC), Phil and Lillian Turley again host the largest forest rally Gloucestershire has to offer.

Last year's runners-up Paul Bird and Aled Davies will lead the way in a Ford Focus 07 with a very hungry pack behind.

Bird's forest ability is getting better and quicker but this position has a huge responsibility and puts him under big pressure.

Scotland duo Dave Western and Kirsty Riddick, in their Subaru Impreza, will be up his exhaust, while former winners Charlie Payne and Carl Williamson bring the two-litre Ford Fiesta.

Steve Petch and Ian Windress will be revving up in their new M Sport Fiesta R5+ and amongst the favourites will be former winners Hugh Hunter and Andy Marchbank in a Subaru Impreza.

Multi-tarmac champions Damian Cole and Jack Morton will be in their immaculate Ford Focus 05, while ones to watch will be Alex Allingham, backed by Lord Weir, with the very experienced Alun Cook co-driving.

British Historic champions Nick Elliott and Dave Price bring the late Pete Fears Escort back hoping to win the historic crown.

There is also the Elsmore factor with father Graham very quick in testing and ready to go up against son Nik, who has Matt Edwards alongside him.

These Forest of Dean legends bring five victories between them with Graham winning the first three Wyedean events in the seventies and should provide superb viewing.

The number of cars contesting the 1400cc category, which traditionally runs at the head of the field, has steadily grown over the past decade and this year stands at 65.

Last year's winners were Scottish duo David Bogie and Kevin Rae but they will not be defending their title

The trees in the Forest of Dean can make things very difficult for crews, with falling leafs can making life very slippery.

As this is now the only motorsport event allowed through the Forest of Dean, all stages will be very fast and furious, with marshals around to advise spectators of the best places to view the action.

The start, service and finish is at Chepstow Racecourse with the first car away 8.01am.

The first viewing special stage is the classic Speech House with the first car set to arrive at 9.01am and Cheptow Park Wood follows at 10.34am.

Services will be at Sallow Vallets from 12.56pm for special stage six, special stage seven is at Serridge from 1.11pm, while stage eight will be at Mailscot at 1.48pm.
