Gloucester charity The Family Haven is urging people to think of them when they shop online to help boost their coffers for the children's Christmas parties in 2013.
The charity, which is based in Gloucester, has set itself a target to raise £500 by encouraging its friends and supporters to nominate them as the charity they wish to support when using the shopping portal site Give as You Live.
Money raised will be used to help pay for the 2013 Christmas parties where the staff and volunteers serves the families Christmas dinner and each child receives a gift from Father Christmas.
Go to www.giveasyoulive.com/join/thefamilyhaven to register now and start raising money for The Family Haven when you shop online at no extra cost by registering with Give as You Live. If at least 25 people register and spend more than £10 before the end of 2012, The Family Haven will get an additional £5 per person that may be used towards art materials for the nursery.
Give as You Live enables people to shop online at over 2,000 retailers and generate a small commission on each purchase for a charity of their choice.
Last year The Family Haven helped 66 families at Christmas by serving them a Christmas dinner at the party in the week before. Father Christmas came along to give gifts to the children – for some this was the only gift they received.
One parent said "I have no family around here, so Christmas is a very lonely time. The friends I have made at the Haven have become my family."
Debbie Nevin, Fundraiser, said "I do most of my Christmas shopping online so I was pleased to find a percentage of that can go to The Family Haven at no extra cost to me."
The Family Haven is in Spa Road, Gloucester and exists to help vulnerable families to a brighter future. Established in 1988 they provide a day centre with Registered Nursery to give disadvantaged families support, advice and respite plus a hot nutritious midday meal.
