ORGANISERS of Bishop's Cleeve's Christmas lights switch-on are determined the festivities will go ahead this weekend.
It is yet to be decided whether the annual celebration will be allowed to use power for the PA at the event on Saturday evening.
It follows weeks of arguments between the village's Chamber of Commerce, which runs the seasonal switch-on, and Bishop's Cleeve parish council.
And while the authority has now given its blessing to the occasion, there is still a question mark over whether there will be any power for the speeches. An electrician was called in on Monday to carry out safety tests on an external power box at the village's community building, which the organisers would use to plug in their PA system.
And while it has given it the all clear, the authority is still waiting to hear from its insurers for the final approval.
Peter Badham, vice- chairman of the chamber, insisted the show will go on.
Mr Badham, who is also a parish councillor, said everything was already in place for the evening to run.
He added: "We have still not heard whether the insurance company will let us go ahead with the event.
"It has already been 72 hours, which makes you wonder how long does it take for the insurers to say yes or no.
"Bishop's Cleeve parish council has done all that can be expected in terms of organising the electricity supply.
"All that we are waiting for is a call from the insurance company to say they are happy for us to use it.
"We have ordered the stage and the band and the chairs and Father Christmas is on his way.
"It has got to happen either with or without the electricity. We will just have to manage.
"It will still go ahead, but it just won't be as spectacular."
The council had originally stopped the chamber's plans to hold the event outside the parish offices in Church Road.
Members had expressed fears that people would overspill on to the busy street.
Since then, the organisers have agreed to move the event back to its original position at the top of Tesco's car park.
No one from the parish council was available for comment.
