THEY thought it could all be over for the future of Tuffley Rovers – but it's not now they've bought their headquarters.
The football club, which has been in existence for more than 50 years, has been using half a building, near the community centre, as a social club for 16 years.
During that time they have raised enough money to purchase the entire building, which they have now agreed.
Club chairman Graham Moody said the purchase has effectively safeguarded the club's future.
He said: "We have been using half the building for some time, but now we will be able to use all of it.
"We are still in the early stages and are still mulling over ideas, but we might use part of the building as a skittle alley, we might put some new toilets in too.
"The money has been raised by this club over a period of time, we've done all the fundraising ourselves.
"We are hoping to start work before the end of the year."
The club, which was coming to the end of its lease agreement, has four senior teams and two junior sides.
The purchase of the social club doesn't just secure a home for them.
"Without the clubhouse, the level of football we play would be severely restricted," added Graham.
"This purchase is effectively going to keep the whole thing going for years."
County councillor Vic Rice (Con. Grange) helped to get the ball rolling.
He said: "I have been instrumental in the purchase of this building which they used as their social club.
"They are going to do a complete overhaul on the place which is great news.
"They are a long established senior football club, and are well respected.
"I hope this will secure their future."
