AN increasing number of groups are seeking grant funding from the town council in Tewkesbury.
Town clerk Pauline Clarke said organisations had asked for more than £19,000 to be paid out to them in the next financial year.
That is £2,000 up on the amount groups asked for this year.
As a result, councillors might nearly double the amount of money they hand out in April.
Mrs Clarke said it was possible, though not yet confirmed, that £9,000 would be allocated for next year's grants budget.
She said: "We've never had anything remotely like as much being asked for as this time."
In the current financial year, the council paid out £4,581 to help public groups such as The Roses theatre and Tewkesbury in Bloom.
But many had grant requests refused or were awarded less than they asked for.
