Work starts on Jet Age Museum

Volunteers at the Jet Age Museum are celebrating the signing of a lease which will enable them to complete work on their permanent home at Gloucestershire Airport in Staverton.
The charity, which was founded more than 20 years ago, reached agreement with the airport earlier this year.
But the legal process ran into an eleventh hour hitch when it came to light that Gloucester City and Cheltenham Borough Councils, who own the land where the building will stand, had to rubber stamp the deal.
Museum chairman John Lewer said: "We began our preliminary work on site but the legal paperwork took far longer and will now cost more than we had ever expected.
"The delay left us in limbo but we do now have the official green light to finish our project.
"Our principle contractor, Skypark UK, expect to have the shell of the building complete by the end of the year but we are still seeking support and sponsorship for us to be able to open to the public in 2013.
!We have had some very generous offers of support but we'd be keen to hear from plumbers, electricians and  builders who can help us with materials and labour for the fitting out phase.
"Our 'sponsor a brick' scheme has also proven very popular and we're going to leave it open until the end of the year – an inscribed brick in the musuem would be the perfect Christmas present for the aviation buff in your family."
Airport head of operations, Darren Lewington, who is also trustee of the museum said: "This is excellent news.  The museum build should continue now at pace.
"The thousands of people who turned out at Staverton a few weeks ago for the Vulcan flypast clearly indicates the local interest in historic aviation, which bodes well for the museum's future."
Details of the museum's Sponsor a Brick scheme are available of the website www.jetagemuseum.org
