HURRICANE Sandy put paid to Matt Holdback's bid to raise thousands of pounds for charity by running in the New York Marathon.
Today's event has been cancelled after organisers said some people would believe that staging it would divert resources away from the clear-up operation in the storm-hit city.
They denied this would have been the case but felt it was right to cancel the marathon because of that perception.
Matt, of Sandford Street, Cheltenham, flew out to America last week with his friend Tasha Brown ahead of the race. The pair planned to run in the event in a bid to raise money for the Leckhampton Court Hospice.
