Incinerator protesters take to Haresfield Beacon with their children

Protesters against an incinerator in Gloucester have been out in force this morning.

A £500 million incinerator at Javelin Park, in Haresfield, was given the thumbs up in September.

Despite a last ditch bid by Liberal Democrats and campaigners to derail the plans last month, their 11th hour 'call-in' was thrown out by Conservative councillors.

This morning protesters once again took to the site, this time with their children in tow in a bid to illustrate the harm that will be caused to the future generation and beyond.

Around 60 people attended the Children's Right's Respecting demo against the incinerator, complete with banners and chants.

Nearby resident Claire Card lead the group to the Haresfield Beacon at 10.45am.

She said: "The more we've thought about it, the more we realise how important it is that the children's opinions are heard, as they will be growing up in the shadow of this incinerator.

"Our message is that our children have a right to be heard, and a right to grow-up and live in a safe environment."
