THE "fairness" of the Prince of Wales' tax arrangements have been questioned by MPs.

A senior royal aide has appeared in front of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee and said His Royal Highness is not liable to pay corporation or capital gains tax.

William Nye told MPs the Duchy of Cornwall, a private income stream given to the heir to the throne, was not a corporation.

He said the prince pays income tax voluntarily.

He received £19 million from the duchy estate last year, and paid £4 million in income tax and VAT.

Mr Nye told the committee the money was used to pay for the prince and his family's public duties.

The Prince of Wales private residence, Highgrove House, is near Tetbury.
