The hot weather looks set to continue for the rest of the week and into the weekend as experts warn this could be the driest July in 188 years.
But although many are celebrating the prolonged sunny spell, the Met Office has issued amber alerts warning about a heatwave today and tomorrow (Thursday).
The amber alert, one down from a red warning, is triggered in Gloucestershire when the Met Office confirms if the temperature has reached 30C during the day, 15C at night and if the forecast for the next day has a greater than 90% confidence level that it will reach 30C again.
It is a warning to healthcare services to target specific actions at high-risk groups, particularly for the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases.
The amber alert has been issued in London and the South East, but a yellow warning remains for Gloucestershire.
The yellow warning is triggered as soon as there is a 60% risk of it hitting 30C for two consecutive days and 15C during the intervening night.
With the month halfway through and at least another 10 dry days predicted, England and Wales have seen just 4.9mm of rain, 15 per cent of the norm.
Meanwhile, a group of Labour MPs say employees should be sent home if the temperature hits 30C or more in order to avoid accidents and fatalities at work.
Linda Riordan, Labour MP for Halifax, argues that many employees are 'subjected to high temperatures which can impact seriously on their health and well-being'.
Meanwhile, The Met Office, who could be set to issue a heatwave warning, has predicted temperatures of 28 C today with plenty of sunshine.
Tomorrow could be even warmer with temperatures sneaking up to 29 C.
Friday should be warm again at around 28 C while Saturday is expected to be 27 C.
