CANOEISTS and anglers are at odds over waterways rights.
Paddlers are fighting for an agreement similar to ramblers' 'right to roam' to give them unrestricted access to the country's rivers.
But fishermen are less keen, saying canoeists can damage fish stocks and harm their trade.
The River Wye is one such waterway where the argument is bubbling away.
Stuart Wyley helps run Wye Canoes, based at Symonds Yat.
He said: "As in any walk of life, you will get some canoeists who are less than polite and some fishermen who are less than polite and that's probably when the problems arise.
"We haven't had any problems ourselves but I know other canoe companies have.
"Most of the time it's the fishermen who are complaining, so I think it starts there but I would be very shocked if it came as a surprise to a fisherman that the River Wye gets busy with canoeists."
Kevin Kear, chairman of the Forest of Dean Angling Club, said: "Eighty per cent of the time it's fine but sometimes you get problems.
"They just need to realise other people use the rivers too."
