PLANNING bosses have given the go-ahead for a new CrossFit gym in Cheltenham.
Cheltenham Borough Council has approved plans to turn an industrial unit in Cheltenham Trade Park in Central Way, Alstone into a gym.
Bosses said it would not include typical gym equipment, but workouts based on high intensity classes and could create four new jobs.
The workout craze of CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program.
Many gym-goers supported the plans. One said: "I support the application for the change of use on this unit to gym use.
"I live and work within Cheltenham and currently there are no facilities that offer these CrossFit services.
"A town the size of Cheltenham should be competing with other successful towns and cities that offer Crossfit facilities.
"Other than this it will offer a health and fitness facility to local residents and the ability to create jobs."
Another added: "The unit at Cheltenham Trade Park will provide a first class gym and will allow the gym to grow."
