Fresh impetus for area

HOPES are high that the redevelopment of Cheltenham's old Odeon cinema in Winchcombe Street will help bring new life to the area.

Town centre manager Martin Quantock said the work at the former cinema will rejuvenate the road.

It came as it was confirmed that the former William Hill betting shop on the corner of Albion Street was in the process of being taken over by a national pizza chain – which has yet to be named.

Mr Quantock said: "I can't believe that it is a coincidence.

"I can't believe that, with the Odeon development moving forward, others cannot see how it will increase the potential for the surrounding area.

"Obviously one will feed off the other and whatever opens there will benefit from the work at the Odeon.

"The whole area generally is on the up-and-up."

And Mr Quantock said he hoped that a similar effect would be seen with regeneration projects elsewhere in the town.

"The same thing will happen near the Brewery development with other things piggybacking off of it," he added.
