FATHER and son heroin addicts, found with drugs when their home was raided, were "desperately in need of help", a court heard.

Dealer Suleman Ibrahim was jailed for two years at Gloucester Crown Court yesterday, following the raid at Worcester Parade.

His 54-year-old dad, Idris, was given a 12-month community order with a high-level drug rehabilitation requirement following the bust.

The pair had previously been told they both needed help to kick their addictions, but were put in prison on remand after failing to show up to probation appointments.

The 28-year-old son pleaded guilty to two counts of supplying diamorphine, one to Lee Huggins and another to Lee Chugg, as well as a third charge of possession with intent to supply.

His father admitted allowing the premises to be used in the supply of drugs as well as possession of diamorphine and cocaine.

The court heard police raided their home on December 5 last year.

Ibrahim Senior was found with a needle in his hand and his son holding the drugs, as officers came to their door with their search warrant. The father walks with a stick and is seriously ill after years of drugs misuse.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC had initially had sympathy with the pair and said he would be "very reluctant" to lock the pair up when they appeared before the same court at an earlier hearing.

He said: "Both are in the grips of a serious heroin addiction and, I suspect, in the father's case, it has been so for a very long time.

"These are drug addicts occasionally passing on for non-commercial gain."

But the pair then turned up hours late to court after having missed appointments with the probation service, despite Ibrahim Junior previously telling the court he was prepared to receive help.

They were jailed three weeks ago so reports could be prepared for their sentencing yesterday.

Ibrahim Senior was released to start his community order, while his son will remain in jail.
