THIRTY-TWO Year 9 students took part in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition Assessment the weekend before last.

These two days included over 30km of walking, camp skills and teamwork which tested many people's stamina, determination and patience.

Working in five groups, each with six or seven people, we got on the minibus after the kit checks.

There was a bit of rain, but we arrived at our campsite, set up our tents and cooked our dinner.

We then completed our route cards for the Sunday, which required all our map skills.

After this, there was time to relax before going to bed, ready for an early start on Sunday.

At 7am, we cooked breakfast and packed away our tents. We set off an hour later for another day of walking.

During the weekend each group stopped frequently to work towards their project; mine was investigating wildlife in the area.

I learnt a lot about what myself and my friends are capable of when working as a team.

I am looking forward to completing my DofE Bronze Award and I am planning to move to the Silver Award next year.

I would like to thank all the staff involved for their training and support during the year, and for making this weekend possible.
