Around 500 people attended this year's Cheltenham Green Doors Open Weekend to learn more about sustainable ways of living.

Fifteen eco-homes were opened up to the public around the town as their owners showed off their energy-saving tips.

The third annual event was organised by Cheltenham Green Doors, an associate of Cheltenham Connect's Green Group, Vision 21 for Gloucestershire and Transition Towns Cheltenham. It was supported by the Gloucestershire Echo and Cheltenham estate agency Read Maurice.

Homeowner Adrian Phillips, of Cheltenham Green Doors, said: "I was really excited to see the interest shown by visitors to the properties. This really is a great way to help people think about how to save energy and how to live more green lifestyles.

"Some visitors find it helps them take the first practical steps and for others it is an exciting way to see energy conservation.

"We are immensely indebted to the many organisations that supported us, especially Read Maurice and the Echo, who helped us get the message out.

Peter Clegg, whose home in Oakfield Street, Tivoli was one of those on show, said the feedback indicated a higher level of engagement than in previous years.

He said: "In my case many people were interested in how I had managed to double glaze the original wooden sash windows as they wanted to maintain the original look and feel of the property.

"In other cases my visitors wanted to know about sun pipe, light tubes and many were intrigued by positive input ventilation, however nearly everyone was asking about the insulation and air tightness of an older property and specifically under wooden suspended floor insulation."
