FURTHER job losses may be on the cards at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College as it struggles with government funding cuts.
Last month the college confirmed it was in talks with five staff at its Stroud campus and a further eight in Bristol.
Now the SGSC has said it has officially notified its trade unions that a further 82 staff might also be affected by redundancy.
The college has three main sites – Stroud, Filton and nearby Stoke Gifford – and it is expected the redundancies might be delivered proportionately across all of them.
College principal Kevin Hamblin said it was too early to be site-specific. He hoped some staff would be redeployed.
"We are in the process of speaking to staff, which will take, perhaps, another seven to 10 days," Mr Hamblin said.
The reason for the proposed redundancies were future reductions in funding.
Support was being cut in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years across the sector and is impacting on all colleges to various degrees.
For SGSC, it means a loss of about £4million for the two years.
"Public spending is being reduced in almost all government departments," Mr Hamblin said.
"The further education sector is not immune to these cuts and every college will need to respond to the reduction in funding, while continuing to improve the quality of what we do.
"At a time when we are seeing record recruitment at 16 to 18 and our success rates are the best in the area, we need to cut our costs in proportion to the funding we receive."
SGSC was formed in February 2012 with the merger of Filton College near Bristol and Stroud College.
It has a combined total of around 960 staff and 9,000 students.
