THE Gloucester Civic Trust is in good company on the Queen's birthday honours list.
Stalwarts and groups in the county have been handed royal accolades in the list, announced today.
Gloucester Civic Trust, which was given a volunteering award, were among the chosen few.
Marilyn Champion, of the Trust, said: "We are absolutely thrilled, we were not expecting this.
"The trust has been running on volunteers for the past 40 years."
Elsewhere in the county David Carter, from Nailsworth, has been given the title Sir and a Knights Bachelor award in the list.
Starting as a physical education teacher in 1983, he now runs 11 academies in Bristol.
"Before joining the federation, I was a headteacher at the Deer Park School in Cirencester," said Mr Carter, executive principal of Cabot Learning Federation.
"In 2004 I decided it was time for a change hence the reason I joined the federation.
"When I received the letter informing me of my award I did not twig that the title Sir would be after my name. I am thrilled. I have two families – my personal one but also the federation, both who have offered tremendous support."
Meanwhile, Diane Savory, chairman of GFirst Local Enterprise Partnership has been given an OBE.
She said: "It is a real honour to be recognised in this way and in particular, for the ground-breaking work GFirst LEP is carrying out to drive growth in Gloucestershire.
"I am passionate about galvanising and empowering businesses and people in Gloucestershire to overcome these current economic challenges and thrive with new opportunities."
Margaret Marshall, was given a British Empire Medal for tirelessly working to get a community place in Forest Green.
She said: "For the past 10 years I have been working to get a meeting place for the community in Forest Green. We needed somewhere to meet, now we are fortunate to have Arkell Community Centre.
"I was heavily involved with Elmbridge Junior School and currently involved in the church and resident associations."
Furthermore, Brian Hewlett, an area officer at Gloucestershire Special Constabulary, was given an OBE for services to policing and community.
