EX-SOLDIER Jeremy Keyte is on target to help injured riflemen and women.

Mr Keyte, 78, who lives in retirement in Amberley, served 35 years in the Army.

Now he's written a booklet about his career with the aim of raising money for Care for Casualties, the charity of his successor regiment The Rifles.

Mr Keyte has set himself the target of raising over £1,000 with the publication. So far he's collected £650 and so now he's appealing for the last few readers to obtain a copy of the book for £5 or more to take him to his goal.

"Having served in the Army at varied and interesting places I decided, 12 years after leaving the Army, to write a small, light-hearted and amusing book, including all the places where I have served," Mr Keyte said.

"It included two years with the Royal Navy and two years with the Royal Air Force."

Mr Keyte said: "It covers my childhood and there is a short piece at the end about my time spent as a regional recruiter with the Countryside Alliance."

Mr Keyte served with the Royal Green Jackets, which later became The Rifles. In the navy, he was aboard an aircraft carrier.

Mr Keyte served on every continent except North America. He was awarded MBE while ground liaison officer at RAF Gutersloh.

"There, my main aim was to foster good working relationship, at 18 helicopter squadron. I organised many exercises, ending with a two-week exercise with 60 parachutists acting as enemy and judges."

Care for Casualties was set up to help injured riflemen. It is an appeal that gives the severely wounded, their families and the families of fallen Riflemen the support, the inspiration and the means to rebuild their lives and make the best of their futures.

As one supporter has said: "It's not just the soldiers who serve, it's their families too and we owe it to them to look after them all."

Mr Keyte's book "The Life and Times of Jeremy Keyte" is available from Major J V Keyte, Wayside Cottage, Amberley, Stroud, Glos GL5 5AA.

A cheque should be enclosed.
