SCAMPER became a real rover when he scamped off on a grand adventure – to make his way to London.
Scamper slipped out from his garden at Lansdown and boarded the 5.05pm First Great Western service to Paddington.
"He must have escaped quickly before I had shut the gate," said his owner Natasha Wilson.
"As soon as I realised a few minutes later, I drove round Stroud looking for him and a few people said that they had spotted him."
An hour or so later she was relieved and delighted to receive a call saying Scamper had been found.
"And of course I asked, where can I pick him up?
"'We've just left Kemble', the man replied."
First Great Western confirmed that Scamper boarded the 17.05 service and travelled 25 miles to Swindon.
The train manager on board the service found him and on checking his collar, called Natasha and it was agreed that he would hand Scamper over to Swindon station staff.
"With his Rover Ticket we thought Scamper was trying to get to Barking," said Swindon station supervisor Khristian Rogers.
"We kept him here in our platform three office and gave him some biscuits and sausages from one of the retail units before he could be collected."
Scamper, a fell terrier, was brought home safe and sound, his adventure to the capital thwarted.
"He was clearly very happy at Swindon station, having been fed biscuits," she said.
"He must have seen people getting on the train and he would have just followed them," said Natasha, who has had 11-year-old Scamper since he was a puppy.
He is dearly loved by her three boys Zander, Toby and Zak, who were all thrilled to have him home.
