STAFF and residents at care homes throughout Gloucestershire are preparing to celebrate a national open day.

Bupa care homes in the county are holding events on June 21, which is National Care Home Open Day.

A joint initiative by UK's care providers, it aims to give people a view into care homes.

Barrington Lodge Nursing Home in Cheltenham is inviting the community from 2pm, when they will able to look around, chat with residents and staff and take part in some of the residents' activities.

There will also be a summer fete during the day, with pampering sessions and live music.

Home manager Michelle Little said: "This initiative is a fantastic way for the local people to see how our residents live on a day-to-day basis and see for themselves just how inspiring care home life is.

"We all work so hard to ensure the residents feel this is a home from home and that they live happily as individuals.

"Hopefully people will see this through the activities at this event and we'd love it if people took part."
