THE chance to cause havoc on one of the biggest pitches in the Football League convinced Kaid Mohamed to make the move from Cheltenham Town to Port Vale.

Mohamed turned down the offer of a new Robins deal to pen a two-year contract with Vale, spurning interest from two other League One clubs to join Micky Adams' men.

Oldham Athletic and play-off winners Bradford City were also interested in signing the Welsh winger, with League Two club Portsmouth also interested in Mohamed's services.

But after being impressed by Adams' attacking intent, Mohamed said he couldn't wait to get started at Vale after agreeing a two-year contract.

He said: "I like the gaffer, I like what he has done in the past.

"I knew he liked me and Port Vale are moving on and pushing from last season.

"Last season Vale were flying, they were at the top of the league all through the season and I am looking forward to joining them."

Mohamed will replace another former Robins wideman at Vale Park next season after Ashley Vincent turned down the offer of a two-year deal to stay in Burslem. Knowing that there was a vacancy for an attacking winger at his old club, Mohamed's agent – former Vale defender Phil Sproson – acted quickly to engineer the move.

Backing his client to relish the wide open spaces of Vale Park, Sproson - who made more than 500 appearances for Vale – believes it's the perfect move for Mohamed.

"That's what we discussed when we looked at Kaid's options," he said.

"He had a feel of Vale Park when he played well for Cheltenham last season and he loved it.

"Micky had his wingers firing last season with the way his side set up and if the central midfielders can get them the ball, it should be really exciting.

"Kaid's a smashing kid, very likeable and very fit. There were other offers but you have to ask yourself what is your priority. It's a great move."

Mohamed looks set to be joined at Vale Park next term by former Cheltenham Town teammate Darren Carter.

Midfield schemer Carter was released by the Robins at the end of last season and looks set to turn down offers from two other League One clubs to sign for Vale.
