'25 fewer teachers'

SPENDING cuts mean there are almost 25 less teachers for some of the county's most troubled children.

Some 24.6 full-time equivalent posts across Gloucestershire' three pupil referral units were slashed, mainly through compulsory redundancies.

The annual budget for the 216 places was £6.2 million for 2012/13 and is the same for the current year. The figures were reported to members of Gloucestershire County Council's schools forum.

The report was drawn up because pupil referral centres are now classified as "maintained alternative provision schools" which means staff are not employed by the council and management committees have control over budgets.
