3 storey extension rejected

BUILDING works to a mid-terraced cottage in Nailsworth have been rejected on appeal because they'd have an "unacceptable impact" on neighbours.

The applicant's reasons for wishing to erect a three storey extension and retain other alterations at Barristers Cottage in Old Horsley Road were not sufficient to outweigh the harm that would be caused to people next door, Government planning inspector Jennifer Tempest has ruled.

Ms Tempest therefore dismissed the appeal, which followed planning authority Stroud District Council's earlier refusal of the scheme.

She said: "The main issues in this appeal are the effect of the proposed three storey extension on the character and appearance of Barristers Cottage and its effect on the living conditions for the occupiers of the immediately neighbouring properties in terms of outlook and light."
