CROWDS at a charity truck pull were spellbound when Harry Potter star Rupert Grint joined in the fun.

Young people and their families who lined Merrywalks in Stroud for the Bank Holiday Monday fundraiser said later it was wizard young actor Rupert had taken part.

Organiser Gary Gardner saw 11 teams take turns to pull an eight-tonne HGV tractor unit the length of the road and back before Rupert decided to have a go himself.

Gary and his helpers, who arranged the special day to help The Door Youth Project then hastily mustered 15 volunteers for the final celebrity pull.

"There was Rupert and me and people from the crowd who did a sort of finale," Gary said.

Rupert, who played Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, was there to watch his sister Samantha's band The Ghost of Samantha perform.

A team from the Fifth Dimension gym in Ebley won the pull in 5min 52.1sec. District council deputy chairman Coun Mark Rees opened the event.
