Eco houses are rejected by officers

CARBON-NEUTRAL eco homes planned for a site in Brookthorpe have been turned down.

The two houses at Kingsfishers in Upton Lane were rejected by planning officers at Stroud District Council.

Using their delegated powers, they said the site had been artificially removed from the main piece of land at Kingfishers.

That meant the requirement for affordable housing, for which there was a need, had been removed which was contrary to council policies.

Letters of both support and objection were received by the district council before the decision.

A resident in favour of the development wrote it was a "truly innovative and outstanding" design which would help to raise the standards of design within the village.

But protestors complained the construction materials were not in keeping with nearby properties and they were unsuitable for an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The development would be "unsympathetic" and harmful to the character of the existing settlement, another resident said.

Applicant Simon Wood, from Bradley Stoke near Bristol does, has a right of appeal against the decision.
