IN the end there was a cheese chase – of sorts.
A Double Gloucester cheese is traditionally chased down Cooper's Hill in Brockworth, but yesterday a foam replacement was used for the races, while the real deal was saved as a prize for the winners.Few seemed to mind, though, as, despite controversy in the build-up to the annual spectacle, some 5,000 thrill seekers turned up to witness the madness.
Warnings from police fell on deaf ears and people arrived from all corners of the globe in their droves to watch the now 'unofficial' races.
