TEENAGERS Harry Gardner and Grace Barber have taken up a paperclip challenge to drum up cash for The Door Youth Project.

The duo, who work and volunteer at the charity in Stroud High Street, plan to swap their clips for something better and then keep exchanging the items until they get something worth auctioning at a gala autumn dinner.

Door fundraising apprentice Harry, 17, and peer youth worker Grace, 18, have until September to get the highest value lots possible.

Harry said: "It's not a new idea. Someone in the US previously swapped up to a car.

"One thing I want to do is to raise lots of money for the charity when the eventual item I have is auctioned."

Grace said: "I know it's going to be hard to keep going but I hope people will be supportive and join in with the fun."

People are being encouraged to follow the challenge to see how it goes on Twitter and Facebook as well as in Stroud Life.

Door chief executive Brendan Conboy said the charity was excited by the paperclip swap.

He said: "Will it be a win for the boys or the girls?

"It doesn't matter who wins. At the end of the day, they are both doing it for the same reason."

The gala black tie dinner be on September 14 at The Orchard Marquee at Whitminster Inn. Tickets will be on sale soon.
