YOUNG mum Vicky Wakefield-Heath marked her baby son Spencer's half birthday because she knew she would not live to see him turn one.

The 26-year-old from Woodchester lost her fight against cancer five weeks after the celebration.

Spencer will be one on October 7 so his family held his birthday party when he turned six months on April 7.

Vicky's family did not want the tragedy of her death on May 14 to overshadow the many good things she did with her short life, her stepfather Ron Pearce said.

"It is with great sadness that we have to report that darling Vicky has lost her battle with the disease," said Mr Pearce, who is married to Vicky's mum Angela.

"Her courage and determination to beat the cancer by undergoing a debilitating programme of chemotherapy was to no avail."

Vicky went to the playgroup, school and Sunday school in Woodchester. She was later a pupil at Thomas Keble and then Stroud High and gained a teaching degree from the University of Gloucestershire.

The committed Christian worked voluntarily with young people, including with Psalms, and was awarded the Stonehouse Town Council Young Person Of the Year Award. She worked most recently at the Home Farm Trust.

Vicky is also survived by her father Bernard Wakefield-Heath and brother James.
