PETE O'Brien is steeling himself to clock up the miles in a motorcycle challenge for Age UK Gloucestershire.
He is taking part in the UK Iron Butt Rally, an orienteering challenge on two wheel.
On Saturday he will be given a map indicating the places he needs to travel in 36 hours around the UK.
So far Pete, from Abbeymead, has raised more than £500 for the charity, which supported his mother before she died.
He said: "The charity seemed appropriate, because my bike and I are getting on a bit as well now.
"Age UK Gloucestershire allows an older person to live in independently, which was important to my mother.
"She had helpers come and visit her at home to help with chores from time to time."
He added: "I would also like to thank Colin at Bransons Motorcycles in Gloucester for assisting me."
