OAP Eddie wins parking wrangle

DOZENS of disabled drivers will have their parking tickets ripped up after Stroud Life helped them win victory in an ongoing traffic regulation rumpus.

Retired coach driver Eddie Boulton, former hotel maintenance builder Desmond Nurding and 96-year-old Painswick resident Marian Ractliffe were just a few of the motorists who complained to Stroud's best read newspaper that they had been given £70 fines.

That was despite their Blue Badges being clearly displayed while they left their cars where they had always done on the double yellow lines in Kendrick Street.

Now Gloucestershire County Council has said sorry for the actions of its parking enforcement contractor Apcoa.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused to drivers who have been ticketed wrongly and will ensure Apcoa cancel them," a Shire Hall spokesman said.

There was no ban on Blue Badge disabled driver parking in Kendrick Street, he said.

Mr Boulton is delighted. He said: "Let's face it, it is due to Stroud Life."
