A TEEN tearaway who spread fear throughout Matson has been banned from the area after abusing people and smashing property.

Robert Hiam, 18, is said to have verbally and physically abused his neighbours.

On Thursday, bosses at Gloucester City Homes won an anti-social behaviour injunction against him – banning him from almost the whole of Matson.

He is also banned from threatening anyone in the Matson area with physical or verbal abuse and he has been ordered to watch his behaviour and language. He will not be allowed to damage any property.

And he is not allowed to be in possession of any weapons such as a knife or blade.

Police and housing officers want people in Matson to keep an eye out in case Hiam tries to breach the order, which lasts for two years.

Gloucester City Homes had already worked with him to try to change his behaviour voluntarily but their efforts failed.

They also teamed up with Hucclecote police to force him to change his ways.

Emily Jones, anti-social behaviour officer at Gloucester City Homes, said: "This order was necessary to protect our residents from ongoing anti-social behaviour.

"There has been significant impact on the quality of our residents' lives because of Mr Hiam's behaviour and this will not be tolerated by us. He needs to modify his behaviour and we sincerely hope that he takes the opportunity to change. If not, he will ultimately lose his freedom and end up in prison."

PC Andy Plant, community beat officer for the area said: "We have been aware of Robert Hiam and his criminal and anti-social behaviour for some time.

"We have worked closely with Gloucester City Homes to support this injunction and we will continue to work with them in case Hiam decides to breach it.

"I would urge anyone who witnesses a potential breach of this injunction to contact the police so that the order can be enforced swiftly and effectively."

Matson resident Vanessa Worrall, who also heads up the Together in Matson community group, says the action is a positive step.

"This shows all the services in Matson are working well together," she said.

"This kind of action will help improve the quality of life of residents."
