CHEESES will roll around Randwick's St John the Baptist Church as a prelude to the legendary Wap.
Three 9lb double Gloucesters will be carried aloft then gently rolled around the church three times anti-clockwise before one of them is sliced up and shared among the visitors.
A special spring service on Sunday precedes the cheese rolling at 10.30am, ahead of the main Wap celebrations on May 11.
The ancient cheese ceremony was revived in 1971 by the Rev Nial Morrison as a precursor to the Randwick Wap. It was banned in 1893 by the local magistrate because the week became a drunken affair.
