Gloucester's Robert Milkins saved some face but still has it all to do if he is to make it into a maiden world snooker championships quarter-final today.
Milkins trails Ricky Walden 10-6 ahead of their resumption but it could have been so much worse for the Gloucester potter, who took down world number two Neil Robertson in the first round.
At one point the 37-year-old was facing the ignominy of defeat with a session to spare after Walden raced into a 9-3 lead.
But three frames on the spin for Milkins reduced his arrears before Walden then stole the last frame of the evening.
Mikins must win seven of the remaining nine frames when they resume to have a chance of setting up a quarter-final clash with fellow qualifier Michael White, the last remaining Welshman in the draw.
