The rushed to hospital by paramedics.
The woman, Lydia Beavis, was later charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and remanded in custody.
Beavis will appear at Cheltenham Magistrates Court today.
Police confirmed the she and the man are of the same address but would not comment on what, if any, relationship they share.
Duty inspector John Lynch-Warden, from Gloucestershire Constabulary, said: "The man is in a critical but stable condition and remains in hospital.
"The woman that was in custody was later interviewed and charged."
Police would not confirm yesterday what type of weapon was used.
